EC SECURITY ALERT: Remote Jamming!

By : Unknown
On : 00:11

At EC Security, we care about you and the community. Here are a few things you should know about REMOTE JAMMING that could save you and your loved ones from the inconvenience of having your precious valuables taken away from you. Share this with all your friends and family, the more people that are aware of this, the better and together we can put an end to this kind of criminal activity.

WHY CRIMINALS CHOOSE REMOTE JAMMING

Unfortunately REMOTE JAMMING has become an everyday occurrence in South Africa. Criminals often use this type of scam because of its sheer simplicity and also due to the fact that detecting this type of crime has been extremely difficult and the criminals have ample time to escape once they have committed the crime.

HOW DOES REMOTE JAMMING WORK?

When a car owner leaves their vehicle and pushes the remote to activate the vehicle's locking system, the criminal pushes a remote at the same time, effectively blocking the signal of the locking remote. The vehicle owner believing their car is locked, carries on about their business but in actual fact their car is left open for the criminal to freely access the vehicle and help themselves to whatever contents are inside the car.

Thousands of rands worth of valuables are often stolen and sadly insurance companies sometimes don't cover these types of losses.

WHERE ARE REMOTE JAMMING CRIMES COMMITTED?

These types of crimes were previously occurring in and around shopping centres and malls but have now spread to anywhere an individual may park their vehicle.

HOW TO AVOID BECOMING A VICTIM OF REMOTE JAMMING
There are a few simple steps to avoid becoming a victim of REMOTE JAMMING and they are:

1. Take note of your environment and immediate surroundings.
2. Be aware of suspicious persons or activity in and around the area where you have parked.
3. Immediately report any suspicious behaviour or activity to centre management or security.
4. Never leave any valuables or prized possessions unattended in your vehicle
5. Always check that your car is locked and secured once you push your remote to activate the locking system.
6. Don't push your remote as you walk away from your vehicle.
7. Check that your boot and doors are locked.
